GREAT Things Are Happening At Mannford Public Schools

February 2015 GREAT things are happening at Mannford Public Schools! DID YOU KNOW? Ronald McDonald visited the ECC on February 3, 2015. The program was packed with magic tricks and fun while Ronald discussed friendship and bullying with the students. An enjoyable time was had by all! Mrs. Welden’s kindergarten class is working with a special project in math. Students are making life-size “student” paper cut outs. The students will measure them, compare them to their shadows and place them in shortest to tallest order. The ECC students will be able to purchase popcorn snacks every other Friday. The ECC students celebrated 100 days of school. PreK students brought 100 items from home. Time was spent counting, sorting, measuring and comparing the items in each classroom. Kindergarten had 100 snack items. They took pictures and digitally aged them 100 years and wrote about what they expected to be doing in 100 years. Ronald McDonald came for a visit to the elementary school on February 3 to discuss bulllying and friendship. Mrs. Morrow has been selling valentines to help raise funds for new library purchases. Elementary Gifted and Talented students visited Keystone Dam on January 22 to learn about thermal and hydroelectric energy. Mrs. Heape and the elementary choir students performed at the Jenks Perfoming Arts Center in the annual Circle the State With Song. The fourth grade academic team, coached by Mrs. Sellers, won first place at the Alpha Tournament in Pawnee. Mrs. Heape prepared 24 fourth and fifth grade students for Circle the State With Song. They joined 14 other schools in our region including, Jenks, Glenpool, Bristow, Berryhill, and Metro Christian to name a few, for the 2015 Region Q Choral Festival at the Jenks Performing Arts Center. 8th grade MMS student, Julie Nowlin collected 90 pairs of jeans for the “Jeans for Teens” charity through the organization. “Jeans for Teens” provides clothing for the over 3 million homeless teenagers nationwide. We are proud of Julie for taking a lead in this worthy cause! Colby Jerome, a 7th grade MMS student recently placed 2nd at the Tulsa Nationals wrestling tournament, which is recognized as one of the toughest tournaments for youth in the nation! 3 MMS basketball teams completed their season with winning records: 8th grade boys compiled a 9-6 record, 7th grade boys went 11-3, and the 7th grade girls finished with a 13-2 record! MMS wrestlers just finished their season compiling a 10-8 dual record along with a 4th place finish at the Pawhuska Tournament. Brandon McLaughlin – MHS January Student of the Month Mannford High School Boys Basketball team won both the Stroud and NOC Basketball Tournaments Class 4A Mannford High School Contest & Debate Teams have been doing great! • 13 student entries have qualified to compete at Regional Tournament • Teams finished 2nd place overall in the 6A Sapulpa Tournament (MHS took home 10 individual medals!) • Teams finished 3rd place overall in the 6A Bixby Tournament • Teams finished 3rd place overall in the 6A Broken Arrow Tournament MHS wrestling team qualified for Dual State
