Donnie and Lisa both come from musical families. Donnie’s family traveled as a quartet and held concerts and revival meetings, while Lisa spent more time singing with her family at churches where her father was pastor. Each of them has a heart for ministry and seeks to share the Gospel with the lost. Donnie Williamson, emcee, baritone, and manager, will sit at the piano on occasion to change up the program, so it’s not all about overshadowing tracks. His ideas and planning for the forward motion of the group are based in keen observation of the industry climate, but also rooted in letting the Lord lead as He allows, and not in a spirit of competition. Donnie has performed on many major platforms across the United States, and is an original member of the Williamsons which was founded over forty years ago. He has served on the executive board of the Southern Gospel Music Guild, is currently on the board of Central Virginia Angel Hearts. Lisa Williamson is one of the best female singers today. Her voice is extremely well-suited to the industry sound that makes Southern Gospel unique—flexible and smooth, but not piercing. Debra Talley of The Talleys was once overheard saying, “Lisa is one of my favorite female vocalists. Probably in the top five”! She is also a gifted writer. Her songs are well-thought out, balanced and structured in a way that not only meets, but exceeds the standards of contemporary Southern Gospel songwriting at its best. Ronnie Hinson (of The Hinsons and writer of “The Lighthouse”) once said that Lisa was one of the finest young songwriters he had been privileged to meet. Lisa penned the Kingsmen single “I’m Ready to Go,” which charted at number six in the nation according to The Singing News, and made the Top 25 songs for the year. She and Donnie have written many other songs that have been recorded by The Williamsons, as well as Gold City, the Forgiven Trio and others. In addition to singing and writing, Lisa is the main sound engineer for Homestead Studio, a full-service recording facility operated by The Williamsons that serves many Gospel artists, especially those from the Midwest. They Williamsons will be performing at Lakeview Christian Church, 155 Coonrod Ave, 6:00 pm Saturday January 17. (No charge – we will have a love offering)
